As I sit here in my chair on a cold winter day looking out of my window the sun as bright as the future, that we hold so dear. I think of what our elders that are no longer here would think of where we are today and where we were in the past and I think that they would be surprised at what they see, they would see all of the good things that have been accomplished. They would see the strides that we have made in the civil rights movement they would see more equality in the world in terms of the different races and genders those are things that they would be proud of because they would feel that the movement is in good hands these are all of the things that would honor their service and sacrifice, that has allowed us to progress as far as we have come today so these things are all good, however there are also things that they would probably not be proud to see and that is the constant hatred toward one another that makes the advancement of us as a human race a much harder task than it needs to be after all every one of us plays a part in the process of making the world a better place for our descendants it is our job, it is our commitment to make the world a better place for our future generations and where it starts is in the homes, and what we are teaching our children now what we have to understand is that at some  point we were children too and in some ways the way we were raised is the way we are raising our children in some ways it is a good thing however it can also be a bad because not all of us have had the greatest upbringing so at times we tend to treat our children the way that we were treated now I'm not going to get into child psychology but I will say that most behavior is learned and it is mostly learned at home some of us learn to outgrow these traits and some of us don't but this is where it generally starts so MLK day is a day of service that many people in many ways do their part to help us reach the ultimate goal of being a unified people of the entire world that can live in peace it was his dream and it should be ours as well.
